What's happening
Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health completed a joint venture to bring Kaiser Permanente to northern Nevada.
Under the deal, Hometown Health (the insurance arm of Renown Health that includes Senior Care Plus Medicare Advantage plans) is now jointly owned by Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health, and will become Kaiser Permanente over the course of 2026.
Kaiser Permanente opened its first medical offices in northern Nevada on July 1, 2026, offering primary care and lab services, with on-site pharmacy and imaging capabilities opening in 2027. Kaiser is now also offering new Medicare Advantage plan options for 2027 in northern Nevada, with enrollment opening during this fall's Annual Enrollment Period.
What this means for you if you have a Senior Care Plus plan
Right now, nothing changes. Your 2026 Senior Care Plus coverage, benefits, and provider network stay exactly the same.
But for 2027, Kaiser's new Medicare Advantage plans are new plans, not automatic transfers from Senior Care Plus.
That means if you do not take action to enroll in a new plan, whether it's the Kaiser Permanente plan or something else, your plan will terminate at the end of this year.
Why it's happening
Hometown Health has been northern Nevada's primary locally based nonprofit health insurer for decades, even as the Reno area continues to grow.
Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health say the joint venture will expand access and bring more affordable care to the area.
Kaiser's model is different: it employs its own doctors and runs its own facilities, all connected under one system.
Key dates to know
